Quick and Easy Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
Gooey-fluffy rolls filled with sugar, cinnamon, and raisins, topped with a buttery frosting.
Nothing says “I LOVE YOU” more than serving a warm gooey cinnamon roll drenched in buttercream frosting for breakfast!
Am I right?
Okay, so maybe it’s not the ‘healthiest’ breakfast. But how about a ‘special treat’!
Well, that’s what I’m giving my family this weekend. A special treat.
And let me just say, they are going to LOVE me for it. Because they LOVE these homemade cinnamon rolls!
Every time I make them they last exactly two minutes and the pan is completely empty!
Truth be told, if I didn’t snitch one for myself before serving, they wouldn’t even leave me one!
But I can’t blame them. They are SOOOO good!
And even though they are a yeast roll and do require one rise, they are SUPER quick and easy to make!
To ‘jump start’ the yeast I like to warm up the milk and butter just a bit. Not hot, just slightly warm. Then I mix the yeast in and let it sit until it starts to bubble up.
Meanwhile, I mix together the dry ingredients. When the yeast is ready I stir in the dry ingredients until everything is incorporated. Then I add one egg. The dough is going to be super sticky, but that’s perfect! Don’t add any more flour!!!
I just grease another bowl, and with greased fingers grab the dough and place it in the bowl. Cover and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
That will give you plenty of time to get the filling ingredients ready. Along with the sugars and butter I like to add raisins. But you could totally add nuts or dried cranberries.
Once the dough is ready it’s as simple as rolling it out into about a 1″ rectangle. Then spread on some yummy butter, sprinkle on the sugar and cinnamon and whatever dried fruit or nuts you want!
My favorite part is rolling the dough up into a tube shape and then evenly cutting the dough into 12 rolls.
No measuring-no fuss. Just cute little sweet rolls ready to poof up before baking!
And when I say “POOF” I mean POOF! They get pretty darn big in little or no time at all!
When they come out of the oven all nice and golden you’re not going to want to cover them up with my buttery frosting. But I promise you won’t regret it!
Every bite full is going to melt in your mouth.
And you’re going to want to grab a fork so you don’t miss one little crumb!

- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast (1 packet)
- 1 egg beaten
Filling
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup raisins
Frosting
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 Tablespoons butter softened
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 Tablespoons half and half
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375. Combine milk and butter in a microwave-safe container. Place in microwave and set to HIGH for 20 seconds. Milk should be warm to the touch. NOT HOT! Pour yeast packet into a mixing bowl. Add milk and butter mixture and stir. Let sit for 5 minutes until the mixture begins to bubble(activate). Meanwhile, combine dry ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Add dry ingredients and then egg to yeast mixture. Stir until just combined. The dough will be sticky. Grease a large bowl and your hands and lift the dough into the greased bowl. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, combine sugars and cinnamon for filling. When the dough is ready-roll out into a 1" thickness and a 15"x 10" rectangle on a floured surface. Spread butter over the dough evenly. Sprinkle the sugar/cinnamon mixture over the butter. Sprinkle with the raisins. Roll dough with fingers towards you, creating a long tube shape. Pinch seams together. Using a sharp knife cut the dough into 12 even rolls. Place rolls into a greased 9x13 pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, combine ingredients for frosting and beat until smooth. When rolls are double in size place them in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool completely before frosting.
Nothing warms my heart more than seeing my family’s frosting mustaches and sticky fingers after eating one of these gooey sweet rolls!

Oh my goodness, Terrie! I hope it tugged on your heart in a good way! Enjoy the rolls and thank you so much or sharing and stopping by!
You call for 1.75 oz of yeast. Seems like alot. In the lemon blueberry you call for 2 1/2 tsp which seems more reasonable. Which is it please.
My apologies, Mike! That was definitely a mistake. The yeast quantity is (1) packet or 2 1/4 teaspoons. Thank you for catching that.
