A Traditional and Cozy Christmas Home
Hello Friends!
I know.
I’m a bit late for the Christmas Home tour here in blog land.
But like I mentioned in my previous post, I’m going to give myself a little grace.
Life happens, and sometimes things just don’t go as planned.
And that’s okay.
I was FINALLY able to capture some photos Monday afternoon, just before the sun went down. So I guess it’s better late than never, right?
This year I decided to decorate most of our home in traditional red and green. That’s totally out of this ordinarily neutral gal’s wheelhouse I know. But there’s something slightly old-fashioned and cozy about the look and that is exactly what I needed this year. I also needed to be surrounded by the things that remind me of those I love, since we can’t be with our family this year. My dad’s childhood sled has sat in our entry ever since we moved into our current home. It’s old and rusty but it still makes me smile every time I go up or down our stairs.
As do the vintage skates I found at our family farm years ago. Mom has no idea who they belonged to, but whoever it was they used them well!
Our mudroom doesn’t get much light so it’s never easy to take photo’s but it’s still one of my favorite spaces. We spend a lot of time here putting on our boots, coats, and hats, to head outdoors. (It’s been in the 20’s here the last few days). It’s also how we get from the entry to our kitchen, so I try to make this space as cozy and festive as possible!
Sidenote: Did you know this ole’ gal could skate when she was a wee little? There was a pond at our farm that my sister and I use to clear off every winter and skate for hours. I’m thinking I need to get back on the ice. P.S. Say a prayer I don’t break any bones! I need all of them! 🙂
Our living room is full-on traditional and a bit whimsical too. That’s probably why Michael says it’s his favorite room.
Both of us are still kids at heart when it comes to Christmas. So along with all of the cherished ornaments that are usually on our living room’s tree, I also added a few ‘fun’ ones!
I even took my dad’s old rocking chair out of storage. It’s a wonderful place to sit with a cup of hot cocoa and gaze at the lighted tree in the evenings.
And Christmas isn’t Christmas without reading the Night Before Christmas, which I’ve done every year since my grandson was born! Of course this year I’ll be sharing the tale over video chat, which won’t be the same but…oh well.
As we make our way into the dining room, you’ll notice that although still traditional, I added a bit more of a ‘glam’ look to this space. I did so because I just felt it needed to be brightened up with a little bling since we haven’t entertained in here since this whole pandemic started.
I was first inspired to do so when I made the ‘glammed’ up wreath on the chalkboard a while back.
And if that wasn’t enough glam (is there ever) I went ahead and created a blingy tree too, and added some ‘cozy’ to it with my DIY Reindeer Topper!
I seriously love him so much that I just might hang him elsewhere and keep him up all winter!
I started to set my Christmas table late yesterday afternoon. After I set out the plates I realized that I’d set it for four. LOL! Of course, there is only going to be the two of us, but I think I’ll keep the full set until I share it all with you on Monday!
After all, if things work out as we hope, this will be the last Christmas I set the table in this home. A part of me is a wee bit sad writing those words. But mostly I’m SUPER excited! I’m ready!
We’ve put a lot of our heart and soul into this old home, and I’m proud of all we’ve done to bring new life into it. But it’s time to let another family make AMAZING memories here.
Speaking of families…If we don’t see you back here next week for our two final posts of the year! We’d like to wish you and yours a VERY Merry Christmas!
I hope you enjoyed our Traditional and Cozy Christmas Home today!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Your decorations are beautiful! I love that you still have your dad’s sled. How fun!
I decorated more traditionally this year, too. I just needed things that reminded me of my childhood. It’s been such a tough year.
Aw, Thank you so much, sweet friend! I love that sled! 🙂 I’m right there with you! Those were definitely the good ole’ days!
Oh Christine, your mantel was gorgeous for Christmas. Truly stunning! Our laundry room has no outdoor light. Very hard to photograph.
Cindy
Thank you so much, Cindy! We definitely enjoyed it this year! I totally understand about the poor lighting! LOL!
