5 Gifts to Gift Yourself on Valentine’s Day

Hello, friends!

Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that Valentine’s day is just around the corner.

It’s really hard to miss that fact since all things heart-shaped are everywhere you go.

And on everything you view.

Some of the commercials are even quite funny. Some though, are a bit snarky if you ask me.

Like the woman who opens up her gift and it’s a kitchen appliance. She looks as if she’s about to throw it at him before they queue the music and tell you he should have brought flowers.

I’ll be the first to admit that it’s pretty darn wonderful to be handed a dozen roses or a gorgeous bouquet of any type of flower, really. But I wouldn’t turn down a handy kitchen gadget or appliance either.

But the truth is, I’m from Camp Valentine’s Day being year-round.

That’s right. I don’t believe you should just celebrate love one day a year. I think you should celebrate it the other 364 days too!

Because you’re amazing. And wonderful. Smart and beautiful. And deserving of everything your sweet little heart desires.

Like that beautiful sparkly new bracelet you’ve had your eye on, or a pretty vase filled with ruby-red roses.

But what if there was a gift that would last WAY longer? What if there were FIVE gifts that would? And what if we didn’t have to hint or wait for someone special to gift them to us on one special day? What if we could give these gifts to ourselves each and every day?

Well, my friends…we can!

Here are 5 Gifts that you can Give Yourself on Valentine’s Day and every day thereafter!

#1-have a good laugh!

Whether it’s enjoying a slapstick comedy movie, reading a cartoon, or watching a dog or cat video on Youtube, laughter is a gift that keeps on giving!

According to a study done by Mayo Clinic, it really is the best medicine too. It not only relieves stress, but it can also provide long-term health benefits like improving your immune system and relieving pain!

So find ways to make yourself laugh, even if it’s at yourself!

#2-Get more sleep!

Our vet recently told us that the average healthy and happy dog sleeps about 16 hours a day! And what does Mr. Bentley do the other 8 hours? Well, he enjoys every minute that’s what!

Sleep is imperative if we want to make the best of the time we’re awake, so let’s try and get as much as we possibly can. I know that’s easier said than done. But it can be done.

Here are a few tips from the Sleep Foundation:

  • Have a nightly routine.
  • Shut off your phones, TV, and anything distracting.
  • Take a hot shower/bath
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • No before bedtime snacking
#3- Plant something

Gardening has long been known for its amazing mental and physical healing powers. There is just something about planting something and watching it come to life that can be both fulfilling and inspiring. A recent study showed that working with plants indoors or out can help to change your focus and improve your mood. It can also lower your blood pressure, relieve tension, reduce anger, and build self-esteem.

If you live in an area with sub-zero temperatures like me, your options for planting may be limited this time of year. But here are a few of my favorites.

And if you want to be a REAL gardener extraordinaire you could also start seedlings for this year’s spring and summer garden!

#4-change things up!

I read an article at the beginning of the year about setting resolutions. The author said resolutions can often fail(we all knew that) but making mindful changes can actually improve our lives.

She recommended starting out slow and small. Like, try to quit a bad habit. Or unplug from social media and the news for a day or two.

And if you really want to invest in change, go big by learning something new like maybe a language or a new skill. Change your hairstyle or get a makeover. Add some color to one of the rooms in your home, or add a bold color to your wardrobe!

Whatever the change make it a positive and make it for YOU!

#5- Time

There is a saying that the greatest gift you can give someone is your time. While that may be true.  More importantly, the greatest gift you can give yourself is time.

Whether it’s to heal, to think, or even just to breathe. Giving yourself even twenty extra minutes of time every day can truly make a huge difference.

In truth that little bit of time can change EVERYTHING.

So enjoy that extra cup of coffee and quiet time before you head out to work in the morning. Or take a little more time enjoying the people and things you love.

Time can’t heal all wounds, but it’s the one thing you can never get back.

I hope today’s post inspires you to celebrate Valentine’s each and every day and to always remember that you are amazing. You are beautiful. And you are loved.

  1. These are all such fantastic ways to practice self-care and celebrate Valentine’s Day too, Christine. I had NO idea dogs slept 16 hours a day. Piper only naps for about 15 minutes or less a day so maybe that’s why she gets cranky and tries to pull all our shoes out of the closet ha ha Can’t wait to put these ideas into practice. Hugs, CoCo
