DIY Orange-Ginger Body Scrub

give the gift of Pampering &self-care with this deliciously fragrant rejuvenating bath scrub!

Hello, friends!

We’ve been sharing homemade/handmade gift ideas all week, and I’ve got one more up my sleeve today!

I started making homemade bath products for myself, and as gifts quite a few years ago. In fact, I probably did before they even became a thing.

One of the main reasons I did was because I have VERY sensitive skin, and it was important to know what I was putting on it.

I’ve created MANY different scent combinations throughout the years, but one of my absolute FAVORITES, especially this time of year, is Orange and Ginger.

I don’t know what it is about the scent of citrus this time of year, but it just gives me all the holiday feels!  And then combining it with ginger? Well, this scent combination is so YUMMY that you’ll seriously want to eat the entire jar of scrub, but even though everything in it is all-natural,  I wouldn’t recommend it, LOL!

What I would recommend is taking some ‘extra’ time for yourself in the months to come and refresh and rejuvenate yourself with this invigorating scrub.

what you’ll need to make the body scrub:

  • Carrier Oil:

I’ve used regular organic coconut oil in the past to make this scrub and it works just fine. But a few years ago I tried using  Fractionated Coconut Oil and I’ve never gone back to regular coconut oil.

Fractionated Coconut oil isn’t greasy and has no scent. So simply said, there isn’t any overwhelming coconut smell to overpower the other scents you add to it. I also like that it remains in liquid form and has a longer shelf life than regular coconut oil.

  • Sugar

The second ingredient in most body scrubs is sugar. Whether it’s white or brown sugar, oftentimes sugar can be harsh on your skin. Especially if you have sensitive skin as I do. You could certainly buy superfine sugar to make this scrub but it is a bit more expensive. So instead, I simply grind regular white sugar using my food processor.

**NOTE: Sugar, even fine sugar can be irritating to some folk’s skin. Please always use caution and test a small area before using any scrub.

  • Fresh Ginger

I love the warm & cozy fragrance of ginger this time of year. (Think gingersnaps). But the truth is, I use fresh ginger in this scrub for other reasons. Mostly, because it is an anti-inflammatory, and has wonderful healing properties against redness and irritation. It’s also high in antioxidants which makes it a great source for anti-aging.

  •  Orange Essential Oil

I’ve used several different brands of essential oils over the years, and although they offered similar scents and attributes, I’d have to say my favorite is Guru Nanda.

They offer a 100% all-natural, sustainably sourced, pesticide-free product, and I just love how pure their scents are. Bonus? Even with my sensitive skin, I’ve never had any bad reaction to using their oils.

  • Orange Zest

This ingredient is totally optional, but I think a small amount of orange zest goes a long way. It adds a bit of color to the scrub and of course more orange fragrance. Just note that it will shorten the shelf life of your scrub.

how to make the body scrub:
Infuse the oil with ginger

I don’t like to heat all of the oil at once, so I take 1 Tablespoon of oil and add it to a small saucepan. Then I grate up the ginger and allow it to barely simmer for 2-3 minutes. Just enough time to infuse the oil with the fragrance of the ginger.

Blend your other ingredients

Add the sugar, remaining oil, and the orange essential oil to a food processor(or blender) Pulse until completely combined. Then add in the cooled oil/ginger mixture and a teaspoon of orange zest. And pulse a few more times.

spoon into jars & sprinkle with more orange zest

Since I often gift this body scrub for Christmas I like to spoon it into small mason jars. This recipe will fill three (3) 8 oz. Mason Jars.

Speaking of gifting! I thought it would be fun to share a free printable gift tag that you could attach to your pretty jars of Orange Ginger Body Scrub!

Just click the link below and print off the gift tag on regular paper or cardstock.

I like to use a hole punch and create a small hole at one end, then attach it to the jar with some raffia or pretty ribbon.
