DIY Glam Reindeer Tree Topper
how to create a glam reindeer topper for your Christmas tree
Hello, friends!
Today I’m sharing a quick and easy DIY that I made for the tree in our dining room!
If you follow along you might remember I mentioned that I was decorating our dining room with a bit of a ‘glam’ look this year. I found my inspiration for the room while I was creating this DIY Snowfall Festive wreath that I posted about last week!
Once I put the tree up, I went through my boxes and boxes of Christmas ornaments and picked out those I thought would go well with the gold, silver, and white sparkly Christmas ball ornaments I had.
But the one thing I couldn’t find in ALL of my boxes was just the right tree topper!
I wanted something with bling, but not too much. Something fun, but not too over the top.
Unfortunately, nothing popped out at me, so I went to my crafting supplies instead.
The first thing I came upon was this glitter deer that I picked up at the Dollar Tree last weekend. They have three different colors (gold, silver, and red) but my store only had red ones. I wasn’t sure at the time what I would do with it, but it certainly wouldn’t work as a tree topper.

Or would it? Obviously, red wasn’t the color I was looking for. And it was a bit too sparkly-but that COULD be changed! Size-wise it was a bit big, but when I set it on the tree it actually looked perfect. So…
I gave it a coat of white paint. It ended up taking THREE total!!!
And then I added some ‘bling’ on the reindeer’s horns with some faux pearls I bought at the Dollar Store too!
I know you’re going to think I’m crazy, with my next step and maybe I am. LOL! But I’m totally obsessed with that white fluffiness, and just like my wreath- I couldn’t resist adding it to my reindeer too! It took one(1) of the mop dusters I bought at (you guessed it) the Dollar Tree. I simply cut it into pieces and hot glued them into place. Since you will only see one side of the reindeer on my tree, I only covered one side.
I also left the head bare, and just added a pearl for the nose!
Of course, no ‘glam’ reindeer would be caught without a pretty bow, right? So I added a shimmering gold one!
And that’s it!
My DIY Glam Reindeer Tree Topper not only fits perfectly at the top of the tree, I think it’s the perfect addition to all the rest of the ‘bling’ too! Not too much, just right!
I’ll be sharing more of this tree and our dining room all dressed up for Christmas in another post real soon!
But for now, can I just say how much I LOVE the new and improved reindeer? Oh, I do! I really, really do! And since I had all of the supplies, it didn’t cost me anything!
If you want to make one here is what you’ll need: (Everything but the glue gun was purchased at the Dollar Tree)
- Reindeer form
- Mop Duster (1)
- Faux Pearls
- Ribbon
- Glue Gun/Glue Stick
I hope today’s post inspires you to re-create something in your home for the holidays!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
This is beautiful!!! I was in Dollar Tree last weekend and didn’t grab the dusters and new I should have. Looks like I’ll be going back! And I just happen to have the deer from last year. 🙂 I love the pearls!!
Thank you so much, Michelle! You need to get some! I’m seriously obsessed, LOL!
Oh my gosh, Christine, this doesn’t even look like the same reindeer – that is so crazy! I love, love, love the texture from the fluffiness and the bow and pearls too. They’re the perfect accent for your tree topper. Gah – this is so creative! I’m dying right now! Hugs, CoCo
Thank you so much, CoCo! I’m seriously obsessed with that fluffiness this year! We have to do what makes us happy, right?
I’m actually looking for crafting ideas today and when I came across this I fell in love! How big are those faux pearls? I’ve not seen those at dollar tree. Maybe I need to go to a bigger store but again I’ve not seen the pearls and I’m so curious to know how big they are? I’ve got several of the deer, unfortunately in red also, and the dusters I have too along with more ribbon than I will probably ever use…lol.
I just love how it looks on your tree! I love “BIG” ornaments so I’m excited to try this!
Thank you so much, Shirley! I’m so glad you liked the deer topper! It was a fun project for sure! I believe the pearls I used were .47 in diameter. Hope that helps! Have fun creating!
