Colorful Christmas Playroom!

I’m starting our Christmas home tour in the most fun& Colorful room in our house!

I knew exactly what I was going to do with the loft space in our rental house the moment we moved in.

I wanted to turn it into a cozy, comfy spot where we could come and read a book. Or watch a movie, and play games with our grandkids.

The loft has plenty of room for dancing, twirling, and racing Hot Wheel cars.

With just enough room to put a large round table for playing board games. And a cozy futon with plenty of pillows and cozy blankets for sleepovers.

Even before I added a large modern tv stand and filled it with all of our favorite movies, I knew EXACTLY how this room would look for my favorite holiday of all holidays!

Yes, way back in August I knew that this bonus room would be turned into a fun, magical place for the littles. Because, for me, that is what Christmas is all about.

And since I’m the biggest kid at heart you’ll find at Christmas time, you can bet I had the MOST fun filling this space up with things I knew the kids would LOVE!

Starting with the Northpole choo-choo train that my mother-in-law bought me years ago. Yes, you read that right. She bought me a choo-choo train for Christmas. Why? Because my old one broke and she knew I LOVE LOVE LOVE trains! (Thank you Mom L)

And now I’m over the moon thrilled that both of our grandkids love them too!

In fact, when our grandson Max was here for Thanksgiving, he spent the majority of his time in the loft space. And couldn’t wait to get the train going! Our granddaughter Molly found other toys and the presents more inviting. But when she finally spotted the train her eyes lit up and she happily proclaimed “choo-choo!”

As for the main feature in the room. The tree. Well, it HAD to be small enough for the kids to reach. And it had to be fluffy and frosty too! This 4 ft flocked tree that I found at Walmart checked all the boxes and it was under $30!!

The tree was already pre-lit so all I had to do was fluff it up a bit and set it in a basket.

To decorate the tree I went with a traditional red & white theme, with a wee bit of green too. Of course, everything on the tree is kid-friendly. Including the big shiny Christmas ball ornaments!

I’ve had some of these ornaments for MANY years so I suppose you could call them vintage. But they have been through far more than a handful of sticky fingers and a whole lot of curiosity could do.  I also couldn’t forget adding some real candy canes. (a family tradition) They can easily be picked off to place in mugs of hot cocoa!

A snowy white faux fur blanket completes the look of this fun and festive kid’s tree!

As I mentioned earlier, tucked inside the entertainment center are some board games and a massive amount of movies. Including all of our favorite Christmas ones, like, The Grinch Stole Christmas (both the original and the Jim Carey version), The Polar Express, Home Alone, and of course, It’s a Wonderful Life!

On top of the entertainment center, I placed a Christmas toy shop village piece that my mom gave me YEARS ago ( I used to collect them). It also lights up and plays Jingle Bells when you push a button.

Along with more bright and shiny, SUPER sparkly Christmas balls that have already been dumped out rolled about. And oohed and awed at several times over.

This cherished book The Night Before Christmas has been read over and over and over every Christmas since my daughter, Melissa was seven years old. Some of its pages are well-worn. But the new generation like those before them are still captivated by the illustrations and I never tire of reading the story.

I was a bit worried about where to hang the stockings since we don’t have a fireplace. But our grandson, Max told me I didn’t need one. He says Santa has ways of getting into our house that won’t set Alexa or our door alarm off.

In this house we believe.

So I hung them from an adorable wooden sleigh right next to the stairs so Santa can’t miss them!

I hope you enjoyed our Colorful Christmas Playroom. And I hope it inspired you to let that little kid inside come out and play this holiday season!

  1. This North Pole tree is so stinking cute, Christine! We just asked my Dad what his all-time favorite Christmas gift was and he said the train he got when he was 7. Santa had also placed it around the base of their tree and even though he’s 72 now his eyes still lit up when he was telling us about it. I love how your grandson said Santa knew how to get around the alarms and Alexa ha ha that is so funny. Love this magical space sweet friend, it’s perfection! Hugs, CoCo

  2. Your dad and I would have much in common, my friend! My eyes light up every time I look at that train! I use to ride on them so often as a child and have fond memories with my mom and sister. Hugs!
