Scandinavian Inspired Christmas Home Tour
grab your favorite warm beverage and join us for a Christmas home tour inspired by Scandinavian design!
Hello, friends!
Last week we received such a wonderful response from you all on our grandkid’s playroom all decked out for Christmas. And yes, we have definitely been enjoying the fun and festive space!
Several of you also emailed asking if we would be sharing the rest of our rental house decorated for the holidays, and the answer is YES!
Of course, I’ve taken a bit of a different decorating approach with the first floor.
While there are some reds and plenty of greens, the majority of the decor in this space is quite neutral. Which is why I decided to lean towards the Scandinavian style when it came to decorating for Christmas.
I’ve been inspired by Scandinavian design for quite some time now. There is so much to love about its simplicity, and for a neutral gal like me, it was a match made in heaven.
When we first moved into this rental home, it was definitely very Scandi with its all-white walls, wood floors, and black accents. And since the town we live in has deep, rich Scandinavian roots, it just felt natural to keep our decor simple and minimal. Which fits perfectly with this unique style.
While there are plenty of white, black, and gold decorations for the tree and elsewhere, I’ve also added touches of green too. I would LOVE it if I could have a real tree and fill the house with fresh greenery. But unfortunately, I am allergic to all things pine. So faux will have to do.
Wood elements are also popular in Scandinavian design, and I’ve added quite a few of those as well. Michael made the large star for me two Christmas’ ago. In the past, we’ve always hung it outdoors but there really wasn’t a spot for it. So indoors it is.
Since I’m always cooking or baking in the kitchen. Especially this time of year, I try to keep the clutter and decor as minimal as possible.
Michael asked me one day when I was decorating if I had a ‘thing’ for deer since I have several displayed this year.
I think I’ve always had a thing for dear, LOL! Maybe it has something to do with Rudolph and Blitzen?
Or maybe it’s because I absolutely LOVE these acrylic deer, my mom-in-law gave me years ago for Christmas. Either way, I always make room for them every year!
I also made room for a couple of DIY’s I created this past fall. Just a wee bit of mod podge and some eucalyptus scented Epsom salt was all I needed to create the frosty candle and it smells SOOOO good! And the branch got a quick makeover with some white paint, fairy lights, and a few pretty stars, to keep with the Scandi style.
Another DIY that I shared earlier this week was this natural bead garland with dried oranges. I just love the natural pop of color it adds to our living area and it smells SO yummy too! On a side note: Did you see my little photo bomber? He just can’t resist a cozy pillow nap in the sunshine, and I didn’t have the heart to bother him.
Speaking of cozy pillows…there are always plenty of those, along with a few cozy blankets to snuggle up and watch our favorite Hallmark Christmas movies with.
Along with a well-stocked Hot Cocoa bar that comes in handy on those cold winter nights we just started having.
And since I hate having to take EVERYTHING down when Christmas has come and gone. I tried to add simple touches that would last all winter long.
I think wreaths are such an amazing way to do just that. This VERY old wreath received a simple makeover recently when I gave a set of jingle bells I found at the Dollar Store a paint treatment.
And three more wreaths adorn the patio door. One of which I shared the tutorial for earlier in the week.
I think that is what I LOVE the most about decorating for Christmas.
Creating.
Creating a cozy space. And simple, natural, and inexpensive decor.
But most of all creating a house that feels like home. Because when you live in a rental that can be so hard to do.
Christmas truly is my most favorite time of the year for so many reasons. And though this year, like last will be a bit different, my hope is you and yours will have a blessed and peaceful holiday.
I hope you enjoyed our humble Scandinavian Inspired Christmas home tour. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your amazing support this past year. I truly could not do what I love so much if it wasn’t for all of you!
