DIY Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Wall Art

How to create Modern Farmhouse Style lettered signs for your bathroom!

Hello, friends!

So…if you’ve been following along for a while now, you might remember when we gutted and remodeled our downstairs half bath last spring.

If you do, then you probably also remember that I had found two rustic wood frames to fill one odd wall behind the door leading to the basement, but at the time didn’t have any ideas of what I wanted to put in them.

I’m embarrassed to admit it but…up until a week ago, those frames were still holding the original photos from when I picked them up at the thrift store! Even though I go past those darn frames every day at least a hundred times! With everything going on it just didn’t seem like a priority.

But if we are going to sell our house, which we ARE going to sell our house. They needed to be filled with something other than the black and white photo of goodness knows where.

So I went online to try and get some inspiration and I found these cute signs!

We already have enough black and white in this room, so I chose to keep the wood frames. But I LOVED the lettering idea as I made something similar with another frame for this bathroom.

Here is what you’ll need to make these fun Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Signs!

8″x 10″ wood frames

Poster Board

Vinyl Stick-on Letters

Clear glue (optional in case the lettering doesn’t stick well.)

how to make the bathroom signs

Step One: Trace out the photo liner inside the frame (it comes in handy) onto the poster board. Then cut that out and you’ll have your surface to apply the lettering.

Step Two: Layout and attach your lettering to the poster board.

TIP: The lettering was forgiving for the most part and I was able to reposition without any issues. But several rolled under at the tips or ends and I had to use my fingernail to scrape it back in place. They did restick with no issue as well, but if they don’t you can glue them into place with the clear glue.

Step Three: Clean the glass for your frame. Place your poster board on top of the glass. And attach the back.

Viola!

You now have super fun signs for your bathroom for WAY less than what the inspiration costs!

Like WAY less! (Theirs was $129 for each!!)

Especially since I already had the frames. And I’m sure you have a few of those around the house too! Am I right?

So the total cost for my DIY Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Wall Art? Drum roll, please…

$8.95!!! Now that’s what I call budget-friendly!

And that “Wash your Hands” sign couldn’t come at a better time! We all need this reminder during these crazy pandemic times. Well, at least in our house Michael does! My hands have literally aged 20 years these past six months!

As for that odd wall space behind the door leading to the basement? Well, it’s still odd, but at least now it has some purpose!

I hope you enjoyed today’s DIY! And I hope it inspires you to make your own lettered signs!

There are tons of options out there for wording! Plus, you don’t have to make them just for your bathroom. How about your pantry? Or laundry room?

  1. This is perfect! We finally got our bathroom shelves up and I’ve been looking for cute signs to put on them. You must’ve read my mind!! And I just happen to have a bunch of Goodwill frames laying around that I’ve had for years. Now I can put them to good use! And I like the price of yours much better. 🙂 Pinned!!

  2. Oh my goodness, Michelle, that’s awesome! This was one of those super easy projects that I said to myself, “Why didn’t you do this months ago!” Have fun with your signs! I can’t wait to see them!

  3. Christine,
I’m in so much love with your blog. I agree with Michelle as I’m on the similar line. I’m getting our family bathroom redone and coincidentally the colours are black and white. I absolutely loved this idea and I’m going after it. I need to find some frames now. I’m always learning something new from your blog. Thanks.

  4. Oh my goodness, Hasin! Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m ‘over the moon’ happy that you’re finding inspiration on our blog! How exciting for you to remodel your family bathroom! Black and white is definitely a classic combo and we still just love ours! I’d love to see how it all turns out! Have fun and good luck finding those frames!

  5. These are so cute, Christine! I love the words you chose and the font style too. The wood frames really add texture to your black and white bathroom too. It’s all fantastic, great job! Hugs, CoCo

  6. Thank you so much, Coco! The project was definitely a fun one and so easy I’m still wondering why I didn’t do it sooner! I hope your week is off to an amazing start! Happy Monday!

  7. I had to laugh at you keeping the purchased photo frames pictures in your frames. I do that all the time and if you find a frame in our home it is either the one that comes with the frame or an empty frame. I think what you did with your frames are perfect for the bathroom. They look like you purchased them that way. Love it Christine.

  8. Thank you so much, Terrie! Actually it was your Instagram post that reminded me of these frames I still hadn’t filled! LOL! So thank you for inspiring me to do so! It was so EASY I should have done it a year ago!

  9. Lol, Terrie! Well, now you can make some pretty wall art with it! P.S. I found two more frames in my office with the original pics still in it! Ha!
