Bathroom Makeover-Final Reveal

Hello, friends!

I am SO excited to finally be sharing the final reveal of our upstairs full bath remodel!

Believe it or not, it’s been over a month since we started the project!! If you missed the post where it all began you can check that out here. And I shared a few updates along the way, here.

Besides a rickety shower riser, chipped tiles, worn and ripped flooring, drop ceiling, and outdated vanity, the bathroom was looking just great, don’t you think? LOL!

Well…let’s take a little peek at what it looks like after a wee bit of a makeover!

***SIDENOTE: I apologize if some of the photos are less than perfect. This bathroom either has too much light or not enough. There is no in-between! It is also NOT the largest space. I’m not going to lie when I say this old gal had to do some major contortions to get to all the different angles.

Yes, this bathroom definitely needed a complete re-do.

But unless we wanted to overspend ourselves out of the selling market, we needed to be smart about how much to do. That meant we couldn’t make all the updates we probably would have if we were staying in the home.

At the same time, we wanted to make the necessary improvements for the bathroom to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

It took a bit more time than expected, but in the end, I have to say it was all worth it.

Even this shower area, which took up most of our time and budget!

Besides refinishing the tile (you can read how I did that here), we also removed the towel bar, replaced the shower riser, faucet, showerhead, diverter, and shower curtain. And I even got a DIY in by creating my own tub tray!  I’ll be sharing more on that in another post. You can also get a full list of resources at the bottom of this post!

Keeping the tub and the vintage look of the riser was an easy decision for us. The tub is original to this old home and, and the riser adds that simple charm which makes this 110-year-old home so special.

As for the walls around the shower area. Well, this is what they looked like during. We had to cut the tile at the entry to the shower and then remove all of it along this wall and the opposite wall.

After a couple of coats of paint (my favorite greige-Catamaran), a new towel rack, and new wall art that I also DIY’d, the wall looks pretty good if I don’t say so myself!

On the other side of the shower, we replaced the old shelf with these sleek white ones from Ikea. The added storage is perfect for extra hand towels,&  toiletries, with room to spare! A pretty basket on the back of the toilet also adds some extra storage for toilet paper.

The subfloor needed to be replaced, so that added a bit more onto our original budget.

We used the same floor tiles in this remodel as we did in our downstairs half bath. I just love the vintage charm it brings and the black and white is truly classic and timeless!

Remember this ugly tile and outdated vanity? UGH! I truly hated this corner of the bathroom the most!

I’m happy to say that the tile is gone, the walls are freshly painted, and that vanity makeover has held up exceptionally well! We also added a GFCI outlet to make this area MUCH safer!

Above the vanity, I hung a round mirror, similar to the one we put in our downstairs half bath. Only this time we didn’t have to make any adjustments to it! But I did have to make an adjustment for the wall art that I had originally planned on placing on the opposite wall. It ended up going on backorder, so what does this DIY gal do?

Well, she makes her own. (I’ll share more on how in another post.)

A great deal of natural light comes in from the window,(most days) but it is a bit dimmer since we frosted it. Of course, the new lighting above the vanity takes care of that issue.

The light fixture is industrial vintage and I think it adds even more charm to this area of the bathroom.

As I mentioned we did frost the window in the shower area for privacy purposes. (I’ll be sharing more on this in another post.) We also purchased a mold-resistant liner to protect the window when showering.

Our budget going into this reno was $500. We ended up spending just under $600 which is still a far cry from what most bathroom reno budgets are.

Most of the overage was due to the shower area and the additional parts it took for the riser, along with a new shower head that we hadn’t planned on buying. But it was SO worth it to have AMAZING water flow!

So what are your thoughts on our bathroom makeover?

We are quite happy with how it all turned out, and frankly, we are even happier this reno is complete!!

You can find the complete source list below, and if you have any questions that I didn’t cover, please don’t hesitate to email me or leave a comment!

I hope you enjoyed today’s bathroom final reveal!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
