Monday Morning Musings!
Good morning, sweet friends, and welcome to another edition of our new series Monday Morning Musings!
My apologies for being MIA here on the blog for the last few weeks, but things have been just a wee bit crazy around here.
Here, meaning our new (temporary)home.
Michael and I moved into our new rental home on August 1st and unfortunately, things weren’t exactly ‘move in’ ready. So you could say it’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride emotionally for both of us.
Anyone who has ever moved knows it’s not exactly a walk in the park to load and unload all your worldly goods in a weekend (just the two of us), along with cleaning every crevice of the new house (germ freak here), unpacking, and trying to make said house feel like a home.
Yes, it’s been a ride for sure, but I’m trying not to complain.
Even though as I write this post the washer and dryer we expected to be installed weeks ago, still hasn’t been. This means I’ve been lugging it all to the laundry mat, ANOTHER first that I haven’t done in a VERY long time!
But honestly, I really do feel blessed to have found this rental home, and for the most part, we are really loving it here.
The folks in this sweet little town are SUPER nice and friendly, and we’ve already enjoyed one farmer’s market where we met more neighbors and found lots of goodies.
I think one of the biggest adjustments for both Michael and me is the ‘renting’ factor. It’s been a LONG time since either of us has rented a place to live and I’m beginning to remember why we stopped doing so.
Yes, our old house was a lot of work. But…it was ‘our’ house. If I wanted to paint a wall or an entire room, well, I picked up a brush and painted. Hang a picture? Go for it. Move the picture and make another hole 10 minutes later. You bet! See something that needs to be fixed or re-done? Grab the toolbox and let’s go!
Unfortunately, that’s not the case in a rental.
And for these two DIY’ers, that’s a bit more frustrating than I guess we had planned for. But…it’s not for forever so we’ll just have to put away our tools and paintbrushes for a bit longer!
I’m sharing photos of the house today that were taken about 3 weeks before we moved in. There was still quite a bit that needed to be done, but A LOT has happened since then!!!
The kitchen is SUPER bright and has plenty of counter space so it will be the perfect spot to photograph all the goodies I’ll continue to share here on the blog.
I must admit. The dining room and living area have been a challenge for me when deciding how and where to place the furniture. Our old house did not have an open concept like this one, so it’s all new to me. But I’m getting there…now if only I could find a dining room table I loved! **Note the room off the living area(by the broom, lol) is my new home office which is also SUPER bright and I’m loving it!
The master suite and one guest bedroom is up the stairs.
But my favorite spot in this entire house is hands down the loft at the top of the stairs! It too is SUPER bright and airy!
I have SO many plans to make this a cozy space that we can cuddle up and watch a movie, read a book, play board games or just take a nap!
I’ll be sharing more on that. Along with all the other spaces, new/old furniture purchases, and so much more in future posts!
For now, I just wanted to pop in and say I’m back and I can’t wait to decorate this house for fall and yes, DEFINITELY Christmas! (I know. I know. Not yet, but…..soon 🙂
A big thank you to all who sent us emails checking in on us. We love you!
I know this Monday Morning Musings was more of an update than anything else. But I’ll be back next week with one I’ve grown pretty passionate about these past weeks.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Love the color palette of your new home, Christine! The black and white is perfection. I can’t wait to see all the beautiful things you do in this space. Love all the modern farmhouse vibes it has already. Sending you lots of hugs. Moving is not for the faint of heart. We moved many times as a military family and even though we had our system down to an art the best thing we ever did was to give ourselves the grace to ease into it at our own pace. Hugs, CoCo
Thank you so much, CoCo! I love the classic look of black and white too, my friend! We are slowly starting to make the house feel like home. Looking forward to sharing the changes soon! Hugs!
