Baked Vanilla Donuts

A soft tender vanilla donut dipped in a creamy pink frosting and topped with colorful sprinkles for Valentine's Day!

Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tablespoons half and half **depending on the consistency you want
  • food coloring gel optional **Follow the directions on the jar

Instructions

For the donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 375. Grease donut tin.

  2. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a mixing bowl.

  3. Add in the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla. Stir until just combined.

  4. Scoop the batter into a Ziploc bag. Cut the end to create a piping bag.

  5. Pipe the dough into the donut tin holes. Fill 3/4 full.

  6. Bake the donuts in the oven for 10-11 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

For the Frosting

  1. Whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 Tablespoons of half and half in a medium mixing bowl. Continue to add the additional half and half until the frosting reaches the consistency you desire. Add in a very small amount of the gel (follow instructions on the jar) until you have the color you like.

  2. Dip the cooled donuts into the frosting and place them on a cooling rack. Add sprinkles. (Optional).
