DIY Spring Straw Hat Front Door Decor!
create spring decor for your front door using recycled flowers and dollar store items!
The weather here in Minnesota has been quite a bit warmer than normal this year! The temperatures have been in the upper 40’s and even hit 50 one day! It’s been so nice I’m almost afraid to say anything for fear I might jinx it!
Of course, these sunny AND warmer days have me feeling all the spring vibes and I’ve been busy filling our home with the look and smells of one of my favorite seasons!
Today I’m sharing one of three spring DIY’s that I recently created. Each one can be used for your front door or really anywhere in your home!

For those of you who follow along, you might remember those pretty hot pink flowers from a spring wreath I did last year! Now that we’re decluttering to get ready for our move, I’ve decided to keep our decorating budget for our current home to a minimum! I’m also going to try and recycle as much of our existing decor as possible.
I also paid a visit to my local Dollar Tree and picked up a straw hat, a pretty scarf, and some faux greenery with yellow flowers because I loved their texture!
List of materials and supplies:
Window Clings
Scissors
Wirecutter
Needle and Thread
The straw hat with its pretty pink ribbon is definitely adorable as is!!! You could totally just hang it a door and be done. But I had something else in mind, so the first thing I did was remove the ribbon.
This scarf is so darn pretty I ended up buying another one just like it to wear! (Along with two others in different colors!) But it was a bit longer than I expected so for this project I ended up cutting it in half. Don’t worry. I saved the other half for another project!
You will seldom see a needle and thread on this blog. But for this project, it was my only option! After two failed attempts with fabric adhesive and glue, this had to work!
It did work and although you can see the thread now it will soon be covered up!
I’m still shaking my head over that scarf!!! Can you believe it’s only a $1!!!
Now that I had the scarf attached it was time to add those flowers to the hat! I started by cutting that yellow floral with the textured greenery!
Once I had them separated, I began laying them out where I wanted and then glued them down.
Then I layered the pink flowers over top and glued those down. I also layered in a few other yellow flowers to fill in the empty space. I really could have quit embellishing at this point, but it just felt like something was missing.
Then I remembered I had bought these ADORABLE window clings at our local Dollar General! Oh my goodness they are just so sweet! They also had the EXACT saying I was looking for!
So I got out my Mod Podge and placed a thick coat of it on the backside of each word. Then I laid them down and held them in place for 30 seconds or so. Once in place, I let the glue dry for about 30 minutes.
I LOVE how the hat turned out and all those bright spring colors just make me smile!
This hat just needs a hook to hang on your front door and it’s ready for spring!
Or set it on a shelf or coffee table for a sweet touch of spring in any room in your home!
As I mentioned earlier in the post, this is one of the three DIY spring projects I’ve been working on! I’ll be sharing the other two in future posts!

This is adorable!! I love how you added the letters to it, too. How creative! Pinned!!
I wish you and Michael all the best today in your search for land. That’s so exciting!
Super cute and love the bright colors. The sun is shinning here today and it does get me thinking of spring and what’s to come. Keeping things on a budget here too because I seem to be more focused on finishing our project so we can also move.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Christine,
This is beautiful! You’re right the scarf is pretty and the way you attached it I could even do, so smart.

Cindy
