Since I’ve been focused on the outside of our house these past few weeks (painting exterior), I’m just now getting
started on decorating for fall-inside.
And like with any season change-I always begin with our fireplace
mantel.
Although I am a neutral color girl at heart, this year I
decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a bit of inspiration from the glorious splendor
of color that our Good Lord provides this time of year.

Although I am a neutral color girl at heart, this year I
decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a bit of inspiration from the glorious splendor
of color that our Good Lord provides this time of year.
I began by filling my favorite turquoise Ball jars with leaves and hydrangeas from
my back yard-and then added a few stalks of wheat, berries, and even a
jack o’lantern or two.
Sadly, I haven’t been able to find any pumpkins at our local farmer’s market yet,
so I had to improvise. I purchased this faux pumpkin at a thrift store for $1.00. It was a shiny
bright orange! Since that is just a LITTLE outside my comfort zone I decided
to give it a paint treatment-using some leftover white chalk paint and gold craft paint.

I also shopped around my home for some items like the
basket and gold candlesticks, and faux pears.

Note to self: turn the ‘Believe’ sign upside down so it
will be ‘right’ side up in the mirror! Oh well. Speaking of the
mirror-I wasn’t sure I was going to keep it on the mantel after
I gave it a makeover-but I’m TOTALLY loving it there, so I think
it may have has a new ‘permanent’ home. (Remember I said ‘may’ in case I change
my mind!)
If you want to see how I made over the mirror you can check it out here.

All in all-the total cost of adding a bit of nature’s glorious fall colors
onto our fireplace mantel-cost a whopping $1.00! Of course, this only just the first version.
I’m sure there will be a few ‘tweaks’ here and there.
But for right now- I’m off
to wave my magic FALL color wand throughout the rest of the house!

First of all have to comment on your mirror, love it, love it. I have big weakness for old style mirrors. When I see them for sale want to buy them but can't bring myself to spend money don't have. Love your very nice, cozy mantel, not overdone at all, looks awesome. We don't have a fireplace but do have a shutter shelf hubs made for me so that is our "mantel", love decorating it for seasons, holidays, just cause sometimes when I get tired of what's on it. Shelf hangs on wall over couch in middle of wall so can hang lots of other goodies on wall with shelf.
Enjoyed your post, happy week
I'm right there with you! I have an obsession with old mirrors-but you're right-they can get pretty pricey! Thankfully this one was free! As for your mantel-I see lot's of folks use shelves or even a piano as one-and I think that is SUPER creative! Thank you so much for stopping by! Have an awesome week!
